Lubeck to Emden
Boy that was a tough day for riders and pillions alike. I am very happy to have new tyres. It was raining when we rode out of Lubeck and it only varied in intensity almost the entire day. Very strong and blustery winds, add it roads of variable quality and heavy traffic, we are so pleased to have arrived here.
It has taken all day to get here, lots of small villages to negotiate with many of them having 30kph Speed limits, endless traffic lights and I seemed to be the first at every red light.
I knew before we started that there was a ferry involving today’s route. This transported us over the Weser estuary. What I didn’t realise was how long the queue would be to get on it. Robyn and Barbra walked forward to see how long the queue actually was and it was very long. With some clever sign language Robyn got the attention of one of the attendants and sure enough motorbikes could skip the queue and board the next ferry. Result. Nevertheless this whole charade probably cost us 1-1/2 hours.
I was the designated leader with Tomtom which did take us on all the backroads I’m not sure I will be leader again tomorrow as Reijo’s Garmin told him a much quicker route which would have avoided quite a bit of rain.
Anyway we are here now, we haven’t had a chance to look around as it was late in the day. We have had a lovely meal in the hotel restaurant and lots of laughs. It is awesome to reconnect with such good friends that we don’t see often enough.
As Kiwis it was interesting to see a few barns with animals in them and the associated feed housed under plastic covers. Not long now till winter and no chance of animals grazing in the paddocks.
