Koblenz
We had a leisurely start to the day with a nice hotel breakfast. One of the more extensive selections but to be fair most have been excellent.
We were looking at options for the day and a 2 hour Rhein cruise was decided on. We are 10km from Koblenz downtown so we thought we would motorcycle in and park in one of the many moto only parking spots. I noticed quite a few pushbikes in the garage where our bike is parked so enquired if any of them were for hire. Not for hire but we were free to select two and use them. Brilliant. The weather today is just lovely, bright sunshine, mid twenties and a warm breeze.
We biked into town and had a look around.
The old town square was very nice and the central fountain contained are impressive sculpture made up of different levels, each depicting a period of time in history pertaining to the city dating back to Roman times.
Soon enough it was time to board. We got great seats up front on the top deck and took in the sights along the river. We sailed past notable council type buildings and impressive churches but the star of the show are the amazing castles dating back to the 12th century in many cases. Most have been restored at least once during this time, but the most impressive of all was one of the few castles to be completely original and it even survived the allied bombing in WW2. 87% of Koblenz was not so lucky.
Very relaxing letting someone else do the driving for a change but I don’t want to make a habit of it.
After our boat trip we bought tickets on the very impressive cable car that started just a few metres from our disembarkation point and makes its way steeply over the river up to the old fort which is huge and dominates the skyline over Koblenz.
We took a wander around this place which dates back to 1000AD. It has been used in various guises over the centuries and now houses a very impressive museum with exhibits dating back to Roman times also.
Then it was time to cycle back and we added on a couple of km’s due to a navigation issue, Robyn was totally understanding of this and said not to worry these things happen. At least I think she said that.
Another lovely meal at the hotel, this time on the front terrace only 50m or so from the river and watching the barges plying their trade. A lovely end to a lovely day.
It’s all about castles today.

Wow! The castles are impressive. What a great day. Would love to see some more photos of your delicious meals please 😄
