Koblenz to Kassel
After another excellent breakfast we set off in a shower of rain. A very grey day imdeed, quite a contrast from yesterday. We followed the Rhine river south until we reached Patersberg. A lovely ride dotted with nice villages and castles many obviously Roman.
Plenty of grapes growing on the hills along the way.
In fact Roman castles, fortresses and lookout towers are all over the place in this region.
At Patersberg we boarded a ferry across the Rhine and set our course East initially.
Our day consisted of nice roads, many many small villages, forests and rolling farmlands.
We arrived at our destination not knowing too much about it. Kassel is a city of around 200000 people. A thriving art scene, world heritage listed gardens, a university city and a city of migrants also. So a real melting pot of people which was very obvious. Also obvious was a minority of people who had nothing better to do than hang and drink out of paper bags. A shame because we wouldn’t feel safe in the inner city after dark.
The Rathouse ( council building) is huge.We sat and had a drink at an outdoor bar and watched the world go by. We then headed to a nearby Vietnamese restaurant for an early dinner before retreating to our hotel for an early night.
