Dinant to Koblenz
We have got a bit confused over our timetable which means we have been putting in unnecessary big miles. Never mind, we are in a nice hotel overlooking the Rhine just out of Koblenz and have decided to stay another night.
Our day started misty over the river but fine if a bit cool.
Ready to go - where’s Robyn ?- taking just one more photo. The road leading out of Dinant was rough but the scenery was nice, through woodlands.
Our first stop was the town of Bologne. This town was integral in the American victory in WW2. The Germans were very successful with a counterattack to the allied invasion but a hardcore group of Americans said F it we’re gunna fight this thing out and against all odds prevailed. This is the famous battle of the bulge.
There is a little square with an American tank parked in the corner so we had a coffee and watched the world go by.
Once again on perfect roads we set off for Trier, a lovely place with a magnificent palace and a world heritage listed Cathedral. Unfortunately there was a service taking place so we couldn’t go in.
Trier is also the site of still standing (mostly) Roman amphitheater and a massive fortress wall.
We couldn’t linger so we then set off for Koblenz. Tomtom took the motorcycle route a bit too literally this afternoon. Mile after mile of motorcycle heaven. And there were literally hundreds of other bikers enjoying these roads that were obviously designed and maintained by motorcyclists.
No actual motion photos or videos of the road and ride. Too busy leaning and hanging on! ( R)
The downside of this is we missed some of the most scenic routes in Germany along the Moselle river. We are hoping to rectify this at least in part tomorrow. Nevertheless my smile has not faded from my face. Nirvana.
