Manigod to Le Puy en Valay
Time to pack up and leave our lovely chalet. Another beautiful day and after a couple of navigation issues we hit the road. We headed back through Throne where they were setting up for a Saturday market.
The first section was really nice riding through forested areas which kept us cool. We pulled in to a little village and grabbed a pastry each for brunch. Tres bon. By 11am we were in mostly farmland and hardly a tree to be seen and the temp climbed and climbed to 33.5 on the bike gauge.
Then we climbed into some hills and enjoyed some of the best motorcyclimg roads of the trip so far. Lovely flowimg corners and smooth tarmac… bliss.
We arrived at our destination for the night, a very picturesque town called Le Puy en Valay. It is part of a pilgrimage route and we saw a few pilgrims with their wooden staffs wandering about looking a bit 2nd hand in the heat.
We checked into our hotel and had cold showers. We have been in contact with my Finish mate Reijo who was booking hotels for a few days later in our trip, so Robyn bless her spent the next 2 hours booking them for us. A tricky job at the best of times let alone when you’re knackered after a hot day on the bike.
We then off for a bit of an explore and visited a cathedral, a statue on a hill and a church on another hill. It might not sound much but there was a bit of elevation involved for all three places as the pictures show. The Church on the steep rock dates back to around 950 and some of the frescos on the walls and ceilings are still in good order despite a couple of fires and sackings over the year. Jaw dropping .
We were done so back to the hotel and decided to eat there.
View from our room.We have a very big day tomorrow 360km with predicted temp of 36. Yikes.
