Chatillon sur Seine to St Claude
Breakfast was provided by the hotel this morning and it was a Mark Tootill treat. The best cheese board I’ve ever seen with jam, baguettes, croissants and coffee. Happy days.
Then on the bike for 268km of back country riding, most of it was fine but some sections were really bumpy and despite the bike handling the conditions really well it was quite hard work.
Once again though the little villages and chateaus are really something.
We also had quite a lot of riding through forest today which was nice, especially in the afternoon as the temp climbed to 34 today.
We stopped briefly for a coffee in Dijon. A nice city with many old and new buildings.
We think that on these back roads that 200km is enough in a day but we will also spend some time on A and B roads and see how that goes. The bike is running with brilliant German precision and is definitely easier to handle than our big touring bike at home.
We passed through a village called Baume Les Messieurs. We had been riding on roads with virtually no traffic. Suddenly in the middle of nowhere this little village was full of cars and people. People were visiting the abbey, some beautiful waterfalls and a grotto.
We arrived at our hotel in the industrial town of Oyonnax but it was deserted with a note on the door saying open at 5. Absolutely nothing around and certainly not open as it is Sunday so nothing for it but to adjourn to McDonalds out of the heat. Whilst sipping our drinks we got a message saying the hotel is closed and no bookings accepted.
So onto booking.com and we found a nice place with a restaurant, 20km away. Much more nicely situated with a bar and restaurant.

Luke and I are enjoying the videos! Love the scenery, looks beautiful and very warm! Hard to imagine those temps when it’s a balmy 10° at home 🥶
